If you’re a cat owner, you need to know about CBD. If you haven’t been in the loop, let’s talk quickly about what CBD is and its properties. CBD is derived from the hemp plant. Unlike its cousin, THC, CBD has no psychoactive effects. CBD comes in a range of products for animals like oils and treats and can be given to the feline for many reasons. CBD oil can be administered to cats in oil form, powder form, or homemade treats. There can be many reasons why pet owners give CBD oil to their cats. If what you’re reading interests you, and you might be interested in trying CBD for your furry friend, let’s dive a little deeper into the complexities of CBD oil for cats.
CBD for Cats
Like humans, animals have similar systems, specifically the system that reacts to CBD, the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). This system plays a big role in their bodies. Once CBD enters the body through the bloodstream, it attaches itself to receptors throughout the ECS to deliver messages and instructions that tell the body how to react.
That’s how CBD works in humans and in cats. Choosing a CBD oil that is right for your pet can be hard, especially with tons of products now flooding the market. We recommend checking a few key things before beginning your cat’s CBD journey.
Checking labels and ingredients. Checking lab reports; thankfully, here at Celtic Wind, we are fully transparent about our products, and we openly share our lab reports. Noting and researching these factors will give you a clear and thorough understanding of the CBD product you choose. Celtic Wind’s Pet Care range features all these key factors and is well worth checking out if you’re thinking of buying.
Now that we’ve learned a little more about CBD, let’s learn how you can give CBD to your feline friend. Read more to learn about CBD treats for cats!
CBD Treats for Cats
Much like how CBD products are evolving for humans, they’re evolving for cats, too. There are now more ways than ever to give your cat CBD in a safe manner. You can get things like CBD-infused cat food and cat treats that are infused with CBD oil. Artisan treats and meals like these can be a bit on the pricy side. So, we recommend sticking with traditional CBD oil for small animals, or if your cat is reluctant to take things like CBD oil, then why not try making a wholesome treat with CBD powder or oil, or simply mix your pet CBD product of choice into their favourite dinner.
Celtic Wind produce a 3% and 5% pet care CBD oil and a CBD pet powder, each product specially created to treat our loving cats & dogs of all sizes.
A really simple, homemade CBD-infused treat you could make with Celtic Wind’s CBD Pet powder is CBD Salmon Biscuits. Simply drain a can of pink salmon, combine an egg and flour and mix until it forms a dough-like consistency. Add the correct dose of Celtic Wind’s CBD Pet Powder into the mix, pop in the oven, and wait until cool. These have been tried and tested (by cats), and they loved them!
Is It Safe to Give My Cat CBD?
While the evidence is still anecdotal, holistic vets say that CBD is generally okay for your felines. Cat owners should be careful when giving their cats CBD oil or products. If you’re a cat owner, you’ll know that cats are often allergic to many things as sometimes CBD oils for cats have a carrier oil like palm oil, avocado oil, olive oil, or coconut oil - be sure to check all labels and ingredients.
Celtic Wind’s 3% Pet Care CBD Oil & 5% CBD Oil for pets only contains natural ingredients, that are safe for your animal to ingest. It is made the same way all our other products are made - by cold-pressing hemp seeds. You can give Celtic Wind’s Pet Care CBD oil directly to your cat, or if they prefer it, squeeze the recommended amount into their daily feed.
If you’re still skeptical, why not try the aforementioned Celtic Wind’s CBD Powder for Pets. This might be great for cats that are a little bit fussy. Sprinkle into your pet’s food or make it into treats.
Always seek advice from your veterinarian.
How Much CBD Should I Give my Cat?
Dosage is relative to the weight of your cat. To start out, for small to medium-sized cats, 1 drop of the Pet Care 3% CBD Oil is recommended for every 2kgs of weight. Add it to their food or drop it directly into their mouth. Do not exceed these recommended doses. For the pet CBD Powder, use 1 scoop for cats up to 25kgs.
Starting small and increasing slowly is the perfect method to see what works best for your furry feline.
